I’m Frank Szonyi, a lifelong Victorian with a deep love and connection to the city. I am grateful to have raised a daughter here in Victoria, and I have enjoyed all that our city has to offer, from coffee shops, to kayaking on our many waterways , to riding around in my dad’s vintage Lincoln. Sales and marketing have been part of my life for more than three decades, and in that time I have worked in live theatre, event management, and the automotive industry.

Since 2002, I’ve been where I belong, at the Times Colonist. Over the years I’ve seen many changes to the marketing world, but my passion to build long-term relationships and effective marketing campaigns for this community has stayed the same. The results have brought new customers to my clients and lasting impressions to local businesses of all sizes – I’ve worked with them all, and I helped all of them grow. Growing up with a family-owned business, I was introduced to the world of sales and customer service at a very young age. I have always felt that client relations and customer service chose me, as it has been an instinct rather than a profession. Since 2018, when I joined the fast-paced and exciting world of media sales at the Times Colonist, I have enjoyed keeping up with the ever-changing landscape of print and digital advertising. Receiving my business degree from Royal Roads University has made me understand how businesses can succeed in the market and I truly enjoy working closely with clients to turn their campaigns into success stories.  I always love the saying “doing business without advertising is like winking at someone in the dark. You know what you are doing, but nobody else does.” I can help you with this part.

I have been in the newspaper industry for more than three decades and joined the Times Colonist as an Advertising Sales Representative in 1997. I enjoy getting to know my clients, their businesses, and their staff, allowing me to create personal relationships with each of them. By taking the time to understand everyone’s unique preferences, I can create ads that exceed my client’s desires. I am well-prepared and I strive for excellence in all aspects of the advertising process, from brainstorming ideas to publishing in print or digital. Working directly with clients to determine their advertising needs and hearing about the success of their campaigns motivates me to continue helping companies expand their reach and enter our readers’ homes. When I am not driving around town in the TC car, you may see me on the streets in my bright green 1928 Model A Roadster Pickup, or down at the drive-in grabbing a cone.
